Exhibition organized by the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in collaboration with The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation. It proposes an in-depth approach to the work of Anni Albers (Berlin, 1899-Orange, Connecticut, USA, 1994), an artist best known for her pioneering role in the field of textile or fiber art, her innovative treatment of warp and weft, and her constant quest for new patterns and uses of fabric
The exhibition highlights the pioneering role of Albers in the modern revival of textile art (Fiber Art) and reflects the strength of an artist whose humanist and essentialist thinking had a great influence on the art of her time and later generations. Albers was able to position herself in front of the dominant role of the painting through the textiles and the engraving, considered “minor genres”. In her quest to achieve real contact with the object, Albers also helped to redefine the work of art as a reproducible design, offering the public greater accessibility to artistic production.

This exhibition examines the work and legacy of influential Spanish couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga, with over 100 pieces crafted by ‘the master’ of couture, his protégées and contemporary fashion designers working in the same innovative tradition.
It focuses on Balenciaga’s work from the 1950s and 1960s – arguably the most creative period of his career – when he dressed some of the most renowned women of the age and became revered by his contemporaries, including Christian Dior and Coco Chanel.

Exhibition examining the revolutionary work of fashion designer Rei Kawakubo. It features 140 examples of Kawakubo’s womenswear for Comme des Garçons dating from the early 1980s to her most recent collection.
It illustrates the designer’s revolutionary experiments in “in-betweenness”—the space between boundaries. Objects are organized into nine aesthetic expressions of interstitiality in Kawakubo’s work: Absence/Presence, Design/Not Design, Fashion/Anti-Fashion, Model/Multiple, Then/Now, High/Low, Self/Other, Object/Subject, and Clothes/Not Clothes. Kawakubo breaks down the imaginary walls between these dualisms, exposing their artificiality and arbitrariness.

The MOMU fashion museum in Antwerp holds the exhibition ‘Martin Margiela’s Hermès collections’. It showcases works made by Margiela for Hermès between 1997 and 2003, and explores the relationship between these and the creations made for his own brand.
The exhibition illustrates the revolutionary role of Margiela in the fashion world. His predilection for the deconstruction, recycling and recovery of materials was unheard of in the industry before him. His conceptual approach to the presentation, sales and communication of his collections has changed the way we think about fashion and its underlying mechanisms, as well as our opinions on craftsmanship, commerce, authorship and innovation.

INTRODUCTION
Under the motto ”Dressing Ideas in Films”, the programme features a broad perspective on the uses and possibilities of fashion audio-visual to convey discourses and representations with a positive impact on contemporary society: development; social and political claims, ecology and sustainability; equality and cultural, racial and gender identity; LGTB+ rights; non stereotyped beauty.
In FASHION AND FILMS we believe that fashion and audiovisual individually and especially united, reflect culture and identity and can promote action, unite, inspire, raise awareness and transmit social changes. There is a growing and significant production of fashion audio-visuals conscious and responsible for its potential as cultural objects, its ability to conjugate through creativity the promotion of fashion products with the transmission of ethical narratives relevant to society.
Distributed over two days, the program covers the different formats and approaches that this medium brings together combining fashion and audio-visual, two of the most prevailing cultural manifestations in contemporary society. It is formed by paradigmatic pieces made in the last decade along with audio-visuals that at present produce both prestigious and emerging filmmakers and international fashion brands.
